New youth inclusive guide to peace mediation
How to include youth in peace mediation? Our new, practical guide tells you exactly how!
Young people should be included in the peacebuilding processes all around the world. We have strong evidence and examples how engaging young people in peace mediation can have a positive impact in building sustainable peace and security.
The importance of youth inclusion in peace mediation is recognized and promoted in the United Nations Security Council’s Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security (YPS). Nevertheless, the widely shared recognition of the positive role of the youth does nothing to the peace if in practice the voices of the young people are still largely absent in peace agreements.
The European Union has committed to work on changing this, to develop concrete guidance on youth inclusive peace mediation and to actively engage young people in the peacebuilding processes EU is leading or supporting. As peace and youth inclusion are matters close to my heart, I commissioned this study and guide to work as a practical resource on the “how” to include youth in peace mediation. I hope this guide with its recommendations and inspiring examples will help to advance the integration of the YPS agenda within the EU.
Let’s harness all the potential of young people and build more inclusive and sustainable peace!
